After Rudian joined them, the party split up. Chain said they needed to cover more ground. So he, Pana, and Rudian headed off to pick up someone named Lera Trade on a world called Balisk. Everyone said “Balisk” like they had poison in their mouths.

Ray and Neste were sent off after another Ranger, a man named Skein. “He doesn’t go by that name anymore,” Chain had told them, “but if you seek him under his true name, you’ll find him quicker.”

“What is he called now?” Neste asked.

“Skye Salvo,” Chain said.

“Oh, my!” Neste exclaimed. “Master Ranger, you never said you knew famous people.”

“What’s a Skye Salvo?” Ray asked.

“One of the most popular performers in the Known Galaxies,” Neste said. “I had no idea he’s a Ranger.”

“You keep up with intergalactic pop culture?” Ray asked the Tribanni.

“My children adore him. My daughter saw him on Chammer two comps ago.”

“You’ll find him easy enough,” Chain said. “Tell him what we’re up against. Tell him we need his help with Ajeet.”

“Who’s—?”

“I’ll tell you later,” Chain interrupted.

He had a long, private discussion with Neste about something and then saw the ambassador and Ray off.

“Get moving. Head for a world called Onao once you get Skein on board.” He slapped Ray on the shoulder. “Be careful.”

“You be careful. You don’t turn up, I’m coming to look for you.”
